Muslim Community Support at Purapura Whetu

We are very excited to welcome five new kaimahi to the Purapura Whetu whānau. Yesterday at Rehua Marae we held a powhiri for our new Muslim community support workers who have come on board to help support the health and social needs of the Muslim community in Christchurch.
We have worked with the Muslim community to identify the people best suited for this work and we feel very fortunate to have a diverse and vibrant group who will enable us to deepen our relationship with the Muslim community and offer greater and more integrated support.

The Canterbury District Health Board and Pegasus Health has been working with Auckland-based mental health provider Kāhui Tū Kaha to support the Muslim community since the tragic events in March. Our thanks goes out to them all for the mahi they have all done to get us to this point where we now have a dedicated local service being run by Purapura Whetu.
